Taylor Wessing Photographic Prize

Today I went to the Laing Art Gallery to see the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize.

The winners were chosen by judges including Sandy Nairn who is the director of the National Portrait Gallery in London and none other than David Bailey, world renowned photographer.

60 photos out of the thousands of entries sent in were at the exhibit and the photogaphs were so inspiring.

Here is the winner Lottie Davies with the photograph "Quints" inspired by a nightmare her friend had where she dreamt she was pregnant with quintuplets:

The second prize was awarded to Henrik Kerstens who took a photograph of his daughter, which somewhat resembles the Vermeer painting "Girl with a Pearl Earring", entitled "Bags" :

The third prize went to Catherine Balet for an image called "Ines connected with Amina" as part of her "Connected" series, which show her thoughts on the "globalisation of intimacy."
The photo is lit using only the electrical equipment of the laptop, mobile phone and the ipod:

My favourite out of the 60 photographs has to be "Frances on Water" by Clarissa Leahy.
The girl, the clouds and the reflection are simply beautiful:
